Despite the growing popularity of SUVs, midsize cars continue to be among the most well-loved and frequently purchased vehicles in the industry. Warranty
Despite being more affordably priced, the new Elantra offers a higher-value warranty. In fact, Hyundai's warranties are the best in the industry. While the Civic's basic warranty lasts just three years or 36,000 miles and its powertrain warranty just five years or 60,000 miles, the Elantra's basic and powertrain warranties last almost twice as long: five years or 60,000 miles basic and 10 years or 100,000 miles powertrain.
Reliability
Most importantly, the Hyundai Elantra has been proven to be more reliable than the Honda Civic. According to Consumer Report's detailed scoring system, the Elantra is more reliable than Civic; in fact, the Hyundai Elantra scored 35 points higher than the Honda Civic.
Studies from J.D. Power and Associates back up that claim. For starters, the Hyundai Elantra outperformed the Honda Civic in the 2018 Initial Quality Study, meaning new car owners had fewer problems with Elantras in the first 90 days of ownership than with the Civic. The dependability study that J.D. Power runs shows that that initial quality translates into long-term quality; three-year ownership statistics also show that the Hyundai Elantra has fewer problems than the Honda Civic.
